Alexander Zverev wins French Open and nets $2.07 million after taxes

Alexander Zverev defeated Flavio Cobolli in the men's French Open final to claim his first Grand Slam title. The World No. 3 earned a gross prize of about $3.26 million before French taxes reduced his take-home amount.

Zverev won the match 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 after dropping the second and fourth sets. The victory added to his career earnings that stood at $62,595,582 before the event. The French Open distributed a record total prize pool of €61,723,000 across all events. Zverev received €2,800,000 as the men's singles champion, an increase of roughly 9.8 percent from the previous year's winner payout. French tax rules applied a 15 percent withholding at source followed by the top rate of 45 percent on income above €180,648. Zverev paid an estimated €1.19 million in taxes and took home €1.79 million, or about $2.07 million. Because Zverev resides in Monaco he faces no additional national taxes on the earnings. He is scheduled to start the grass-court season at the HSBC Championships on June 15.
