A 69-year-old American woman died after plunging from the 29th-floor pool deck of a Hong Kong hotel in Wan Chai, injuring seven people on the ground, one seriously. The fall shattered glass panels near the lobby entrance. A police source said she had suffered from depression and stopped taking medication in March.
The incident occurred on May 4, 2026, when the 69-year-old US passport holder was staying at Hotel Indigo on Queen’s Road East in Wan Chai with her husband, a police source said. Her husband reportedly left the hotel at about 8am to see a doctor. The woman went to the pool deck and plunged to her death shortly after 9am.
A 74-year-old local woman was struck by the falling body and taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam, where she remained in intensive care. The impact also shattered glass panels near the lobby entrance, with shards injuring six others, including the 74-year-old woman’s 77-year-old sister, as they helped a friend check out.
The other injured included a 10-year-old boy and his 40-year-old mother from mainland China; another Chinese woman, 41, and her eight-year-old son; and an 89-year-old American tourist who is the friend of the seriously injured woman and her sister.
