Andy Roddick has defended Andre Agassi's recent comments on Jannik Sinner's second-round exit at Roland Garros. Roddick described the remarks as fair criticism during an appearance on his Served Podcast.
Agassi had stated there was no excuse for Sinner to struggle after one hour and 45 minutes in the Paris heat. Roddick agreed that players should handle an hour and 40 minutes under any conditions.
Roddick noted Agassi's experience as a former world number one gave weight to the view. He added that Agassi spoke with Sinner coach Darren Cahill beforehand because of their shared history from 2002 to 2006.
Sinner had led Juan Manuel Cerundolo by two sets and 5-2 in the third before the loss. Similar heat-related issues arose for Sinner at the Australian Open earlier in the year.
Agassi and Roddick suggested possible hydration problems and recommended targeted heat training. Wimbledon begins in three weeks.
