The Quebec-based duo Angine de Poitrine received the Global Breakthrough Award during the Billboard Canada Power Players celebration in Toronto on June 10. Their wordless appearance on stage became one of the night's standout moments.
The duo, known for polka-dot costumes and math rock performances, walked onstage at the event held as part of NXNE. Guitarist Khn de Poitrine and percussionist Klek de Poitrine remained silent before triggering a burst of black and white confetti and exiting without speaking.
The award was presented at the gathering of Canadian music executives that also recognized other honorees. Vinny Cinquemani and Riley O’Connor became the first inductees into the Billboard Canada Hall of Fame for their contributions to live music.
Meg Symsyk of FACTOR accepted the Visionary Leadership Award, while Margaret McGuffin of Music Publishers Canada received the Impact Award. A separate Managers to Watch event took place the following day on June 11.
