Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that 646 government schools lack electricity and 283 lack boys' toilets as of March 2026.
The figures represent 1.53 percent and 0.64 percent of the state's 44,243 government and aided schools. All schools have girls' toilets, and 643 operate functional solar systems.
The government has allocated 4 crore rupees this fiscal year to connect the remaining schools to electricity. Construction of boys' toilets in the 283 affected schools has begun.
Pegu added that 10,033 of 10,965 directly managed schools already have digital learning facilities. An additional 328 schools will receive ICT laboratories this year, leaving 608 without such infrastructure.
The minister outlined plans to complete essential infrastructure upgrades by March 2027.
