Designer Pierpaolo Piccioli presented his debut fall 2026 couture collection for Balenciaga in Paris earlier today. The show highlighted a new crystal-embellished iteration of the brand's iconic City Bag.
The collection featured the updated City Bags in looks 5 and 21. They were made with shiny silver metal and rose gold crystal mesh instead of traditional leather.
The original City Bag launched in 2001 under Nicolas Ghesquière. It was initially named the Le Dix Motorcycle Lariat and offered a slouchier alternative to rigid luxury bags of the era.
Ghesquière noted at the time that accessories were rigid and luxury leather emphasized structure. The style gained fame during Y2K fashion and was carried by figures including Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, and the Olsen twins.
Balenciaga leather goods designer Minyoung Gil shared close-up images of the new version on Instagram. No price has been announced, though the bags target VIP clients.
