Andrew Castle will end his 23-year run as BBC lead tennis commentator after this year's Wimbledon Championships.
Castle, 62, said he learned of the decision two months ago from BBC head of sport Alex Kay-Jelski. The tournament, which begins June 29, marks his final event in the top role.
He told The Times that the BBC offered him another position on the team, but he declined. “This year will be my final final, 23 in all over 24 years,” Castle said. “They want me to stay on the team, but I will depart with gratitude.”
The move forms part of a broader shift at BBC Sport under Kay-Jelski, who took the post two years ago. Castle described the role as a privilege despite occasional pressure and criticism during his tenure.
He plans to focus on personal projects, including building a house and welcoming a third grandchild.
