Pittsburgh Steelers sixth-round pick Will Howard is unlikely to generate interest in a trade, according to beat writer Ray Fittipaldo. The assessment comes as the team prepares for training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster.
Fittipaldo, who covers the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, responded to fan speculation that Howard could bring back a seventh-round or mid-round pick. He wrote that such ideas are not realistic whatsoever given Howard has yet to play in a preseason game.
The quarterback was selected in the sixth round of the most recent draft after an injury kept him out of all preseason action the prior year. Fittipaldo noted that teams passed on Howard repeatedly during the draft, which supports the view that other clubs see limited value in acquiring him now.
The Steelers have publicly praised Howard along with fellow quarterbacks Drew Allar and Mason Rudolph. With only three roster spots typically available at the position, the team faces a decision on which player to retain or release ahead of camp.
