Former Socialist prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve has announced that he is presenting his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election through an 85-page letter addressed to the French people.
In an interview given to Le Parisien on 16 July 2026, Bernard Cazeneuve stated: “It is through a contract that binds me to the French that I present my candidacy”. The letter is due to be published on Friday.
The head of La Convention, which he founded in 2022 after leaving the Socialist Party, specified that he would not take part in the Socialist primary scheduled at the latest in the autumn. He regretted that the “personal agendas” of François Hollande and Raphaël Glucksmann had not allowed the formation of a “pole of stability”.
Cazeneuve indicated that his project would focus on the protective role of the State, the refoundation of public services and the rejection of the “two dégagismes” carried by the Rassemblement National and the Insoumis.
