Big Hops director Chris Wade announced a free eight-player online co-op update for the Steam version of the 3D platformer. The update, called Big Hops Together, is scheduled to launch on August 9 and includes the full game with shared progress.
Big Hops launched earlier this year on Steam and has been praised as one of the standout games of 2026. The multiplayer mode will allow up to eight players to play through the entire adventure together, with features such as picking up and throwing friends, tongue swinging from other players, and stealing items from backpacks.
Wade revealed the details on social media and in comments to Kotaku. He explained that the base game was not designed with multiplayer in mind, requiring extensive code rewrites for player movement, UI, progression, saving, cutscenes, and other elements. The team had no prior multiplayer experience and spent two months working through design challenges.
Players can test the mode now by activating the Together beta branch on Steam. The update will remain exclusive to Steam at launch to allow focused development and easier playtesting.
