Carter Jensen extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a three-hit performance that included two RBIs, helping the Kansas City Royals defeat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 on Sunday at Rate Field.
Jensen's RBI single in the first inning and a two-out double in the fourth drove in runs, with the latter scoring Bobby Witt Jr. to provide the game-winning margin. The streak, which began on June 6, is the longest active in the majors and sets a new franchise record for a Royals rookie.
Jensen, who was moved up to the No. 3 spot after Jac Caglianone was scratched with left groin soreness, credited his approach at the plate. "Just trying to simplify and trust my swing, trust my bat path," he said. Manager Matt Quatraro noted Jensen's improved use of the whole field.
The Royals bullpen held the lead after starter Luinder Avila allowed four runs in four innings. Alex Lange earned his seventh save. The win ended a four-game losing streak for Kansas City.
