Cerro Matoso operates at 75% due to Canacol gas cut

Mining company Cerro Matoso has completed eight days operating at 75% capacity after a reduction in natural gas supply from Canacol Energy.

The operation was affected by a decision from the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta in Canada that authorized Canacol Energy to terminate natural gas supply contracts in Colombia early due to an insolvency process.

Cerro Matoso has adopted measures including the temporary exoneration of about 100 employees and the reduction of more than 120 contractors. The company also cut the scope of 25% of goods and services contracts.

Naturgas and Asoenergía called for ensuring gas supply. Naturgas president Luz Stella Murgas said it is necessary to reduce legal uncertainty. Asoenergía director Silvana Habib Daza warned that reliable supply is essential for industry and employment.
