Chinese memory firms boost DDR5 production after CXMT breakthrough

Chinese memory module makers are accelerating production of consumer and enterprise products powered by domestic DDR5 chips. Breakthroughs from ChangXin Memory Technologies are moving through the supply chain. Firms like Powev have started mass production of server memories.

Powev recently announced that its Sinker-branded DDR5 server memories have entered mass production and delivery. The 64GB DDR5-5600 RDIMM product passed testing by multiple major customers and is now ready for bulk supply to enterprise clients, channel partners and branded vendors.

Powev’s Sinker DDR5 memory modules use fully domestic components. Other Chinese vendors including Suzhou Comay have released DDR5 products based on CXMT dies for industrial and enterprise applications. In the consumer market, Powev’s Gloway and KingBank DDR5 models based on Chinese-made DRAM chips were already on sale by late 2024.

ChangXin Memory Technologies officially debuted its DDR5 product portfolio in November 2025. The Hefei-based company said its DDR5 chips support speeds of up to 8,000 Mbps and die densities of 16Gb and 24Gb, targeting servers, workstations and personal computers.

During its Q1 2026 earnings call, HP executives revealed that RAM now represents 35 percent of the company's PC costs, up from 15 to 18 percent last quarter. The surge is attributed to AI-driven demand straining memory supplies. HP anticipates further price volatility and plans to raise PC prices in response.

Samsung Electronics reclaimed the top position in the global dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) market during the fourth quarter of last year. According to data from industry tracker Omdia, Samsung's DRAM sales surged 40.6 percent quarter-on-quarter to $19.1 billion, capturing 36.6 percent of the market. SK hynix held 32.9 percent of the market with sales rising 25.2 percent to $17.2 billion.

A Chinese PC parts vendor who stockpiled DRAM during high prices expressed despair after recent price drops. In a video from a warehouse filled with memory chips, the vendor questioned if prices might rise again. The declines follow AI-driven shortages but are not yet widespread.

A team led by Wu Zhenping at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications has confirmed in Science Advances that kappa-gallium oxide exhibits stable ferroelectricity at room temperature, enabling it to store data like a memory device while serving as a high-power transmitter. This breakthrough could allow for smaller, more powerful military electronics in Chinese fighters, potentially leaving US F-22 radars two generations behind.
