The Congress party said it would mount a legal and political challenge after the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for a Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. BJP candidates were declared elected unopposed on June 11, 2026.
The Congress announced its decision after a meeting of top leaders on June 11, 2026. Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of bias and called the rejection a case of “seat chori”. The party plans a nationwide campaign on issues including inflation, unemployment and paper leaks.
BJP candidates Tarun Chug, Rajneesh Agrawal and Mahesh Kewat received election certificates after being declared elected unopposed. The returning officer had rejected Ms Natarajan’s nomination following a BJP objection over an alleged undisclosed case in Hyderabad.
Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Digvijaya Singh criticised the move. The party said it would fight the issue in court and seek intervention from President Droupadi Murmu. A three-to-four month campaign is expected to begin by the end of June.
