Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard believes Carlos Sainz is already considering opportunities elsewhere after a difficult start to the 2026 season with Williams.
Coulthard made the comments on the Up To Speed podcast. He noted the Spaniard's move from Ferrari, where he won grands prix, to a Williams team that sits eighth in the constructors' championship with 11 points.
Williams missed private testing in Barcelona and arrived at pre-season testing in Bahrain with an overweight car. The team has made improvements since but remains lower down the order.
"He's definitely eyeballing where his next opportunity lies because he's gone from Ferrari winning grands prix to Williams being happy scoring points," Coulthard said. He added that the rebuild at Williams will take several years.
Sainz has reaffirmed his commitment to the team. The 31-year-old said the ideal path for him remains with Williams and helping the squad become competitive again.
