Delhi CM Rekha Gupta releases one-year government report card

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta released a report card on her government's first year in office on Friday, highlighting progress in health, housing, and water supply. The Aam Aadmi Party countered by labeling it a failure and accusing the government of broken promises. Both sides presented their arguments during press conferences.

The BJP government in Delhi assumed office on February 20, 2025, marking its return to power in the capital after 27 years. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta released the report card on February 21, 2026, describing it as a 'fact sheet of hard work, transformation, and tangible results.' She stated that the past year marked the beginning of change, moving Delhi from stagnation to momentum, confrontation to coordination, and publicity to performance.

In health, the first Cabinet meeting approved the Ayushman Bharat scheme, stalled by the previous AAP government for years. Nearly seven lakh people registered, with over 30,000 availing benefits through Ayushman Bharat and Vaya Vandana schemes. Seventy-one Atal Canteens were launched, serving around 71,000 people daily at Rs 5 per meal. Three hundred and seventy Ayushman Arogya Mandirs were set up, with a target of 1,100 by year-end. Long-pending hospital projects were completed, including new blocks at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, and Dada Dev Maternal and Child Hospital.

For housing, Rs 700 crore was allocated for slum redevelopment, with around 13,000 flats being prepared in Savda Ghevra, Bhalswa, Dwarka, and Sultanpuri for allotment to residents. The minimum wage was raised to Rs 22,411 per month, the highest in the country. Five hundred 'Palna' centres were opened for working women, and 146 projects worth Rs 85 crore were approved for SC/ST localities.

On water supply, 13 km of transmission pipelines were replaced, and 172 km of new or upgraded lines were laid. Work on the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant is being expedited. For Yamuna cleaning, 28 of 37 substandard sewage treatment plants were upgraded, increasing capacity from 700 MGD to 814 MGD, with a target of 1,500 MGD.

The opposition Aam Aadmi Party criticized the report. Senior leader Manish Sisodia said the BJP government's first year was defined by 'broken promises and deception,' citing the unfulfilled Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women promised from March 8, 2025. He accused the government of inaction on pollution, leading to the worst AQI, and demolishing slums instead of redeveloping them under the 'Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan' promise. Sisodia displayed a poster: 'Ek Saal, Dilli Behaal, Yaad Aa Rahe Kejriwal.' He called the private school fee regulation Act 'fake' and noted education budget cuts, halting programs like the Happiness Curriculum.

Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva hit back, questioning Sisodia's absence and accusing him of extortion in Punjab. He referenced the Mohalla clinic 'scam' under AAP and praised the over 100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs implemented by the current government.
