Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj has criticised the appointment of Vatsala Agarwal as Director General of Health Services despite a pending vigilance inquiry.
Bharadwaj made the remarks on Sunday after the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Agarwal on Saturday. She faces allegations in a multi-crore procurement scam involving medicines, surgical items and medical equipment.
The AAP leader noted that the BJP government appointed Agarwal in August 2025 to the Delhi State Cancer Institute while a vigilance inquiry into alleged corruption was under way. He described the move as against norms because senior doctors were overlooked.
In June, the government transferred Agarwal to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The charge of director was given to the medical superintendent of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in addition to existing duties.
“Dr. Vatsala Agarwal was appointed to this position when a vigilance inquiry was pending,” Bharadwaj said in a post on X.
