Three deputies introduced a bill to strengthen municipal and health oversight of optical stores in Chile. The proposal requires proof of capital origin and sales records to prevent their use as fronts for illegal activities.
Deputies Erich Grohs (PNL), Catalina del Real (REP) and Roberto Arroyo (IND) are driving the measure. New optical stores must prove the origin of their capital and submit import declarations. To renew municipal patents, they will report operating hours and provide samples of tax documents.
Grohs said “the explosive growth of certain sectors forces the State to strengthen its controls”. Del Real added that the initiative protects patients and consumers by requiring traceability and tax documents. Arroyo explained that it aims to preempt organized crime.
Lack of receipts or falsified records could lead to closures. Health SEREMIs will prioritize inspections of these establishments.
