Disney has confirmed an extended timeline for refurbishment at its Contemporary Resort, pushing the work through 2027. The project, started in 2024, now includes phases affecting the main tower, bridges, and pool areas in 2026.
The refurbishment at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, one of the original hotels opened in 1971 alongside Walt Disney World, began in 2024. Disney recently confirmed the project will continue through 2027, longer than many guests anticipated amid widespread updates across the resort's hotels in 2026. These efforts involve modernizing rooms, pools, and shared spaces, with construction common but phased to limit disruptions. The Contemporary Resort features an A-frame structure with the monorail running through it and lies within walking distance of Magic Kingdom. Starting March 23, 2026, crews will perform exterior maintenance on the Main Tower, potentially blocking some views, shifting walking paths, and causing daytime noise or visible work. The Skyway Bridge connecting Bay Lake Tower to the main building will have a limited schedule from late March to early May 2026, closing weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with alternate routes required. At Bay Lake Tower, exterior repairs to elevator landings continue through late spring 2026. Meanwhile, the Bay Cove Pool, Cove Bar, water play area, and whirlpool spa have been closed since late January and are set to reopen in early May 2026; guests can use the main pool and other features at the Contemporary Resort. The resort remains open, though guests may experience changes in navigation, views, and noise during the multi-phase work.
