Dutch regulators approve Tesla FSD Supervised system

The Netherlands vehicle authority RDW has granted European type approval for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Supervised system after an 18-month review. The approval allows the technology to be used across the country.

The decision followed more than 3,000 hours of independent testing on tracks and public roads. Regulators also reviewed data from 1.8 million kilometres of FSD Supervised driving in Europe.

RDW officials presented their findings to the Dutch House of Representatives. They noted that the system includes continuous driver monitoring and meets or exceeds safety standards for similar driver assistance tools.

Reporting requirements for Tesla were tightened to monthly updates instead of annual reviews. Nearly 40,000 vehicles equipped with the system have since driven 24 million kilometres in the Netherlands without relevant incidents.

Denmark has granted provisional approval for Tesla's Full Self-Driving Supervised system, becoming the fourth European country to do so. The Danish Road Traffic Authority, Færdselsstyrelsen, announced the decision on June 9 after reviewing the Dutch type approval.

The Netherlands has become the first European country to approve Tesla's Full Self-Driving Supervised system, following earlier regulatory discussions and a demonstration in early 2026. RDW, the Dutch vehicle regulatory authority, granted type approval after over 1.5 years of extensive testing. Tesla plans to roll out the driver assistance feature shortly.

Tesla has received approval for its advanced driver assistance software "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" in the Netherlands, the first European country. The Dutch vehicle authority RDW approved the system, which handles most driving tasks on highways and in city traffic under human supervision. Tesla is seeking approvals in other European countries.

Tesla has begun sending 30-day free trials of FSD (Supervised) V14 to owners in Denmark. The rollout marks the first time the feature has been offered in the country.

A Swedish transport authority is urging the European Union to reject Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system unless the company disables its ability to exceed speed limits. The recommendation comes ahead of a key EU committee meeting next month.
