Egypt and Syria discuss energy cooperation during US visit

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met Syria’s Minister of Energy Mohammad Al-Bashir in the United States to explore expanded oil and gas cooperation and support recovery of Syria’s energy sector.

The ministers reviewed progress on a memorandum of understanding in the natural gas sector, including measures related to gas supply via the Arab Gas Pipeline. They also examined opportunities for Egyptian firms ENPPI and Petrojet to help rehabilitate and modernise Syria’s energy infrastructure. Badawi highlighted Egypt’s experience across the petroleum value chain and its advanced gas networks and liquefaction plants. He noted that closer ties would enhance regional energy security and support Arab economic integration. Al-Bashir welcomed deeper cooperation and the chance to draw on Egyptian expertise for rebuilding and improving operational efficiency. Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consider a joint technical mechanism to advance agreed projects.
