Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and US adviser Massad Boulos discussed conflicts in Sudan and Libya, Horn of Africa developments, and Nile water security concerns during Sunday talks.
The two officials reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination on regional issues and strengthening the strategic partnership between Cairo and Washington, according to a ministry statement.
On Sudan, Abdelatty called for a sustainable ceasefire, an enhanced humanitarian response and a comprehensive political process led by Sudanese parties while preserving the country’s unity, sovereignty and national institutions.
On Libya, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for the country’s unity and preservation of its national institutions, calling for a Libyan-led political process that would pave the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Abdelatty described Nile water security as existential for Egypt and reiterated Cairo’s rejection of unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile Basin, calling for adherence to international law governing shared water resources.
