Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed in Cairo today to discuss strengthening cooperation, regional developments, and proposals to reform the international organization.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the UN, the multilateral system, and adherence to international law and the UN Charter. He praised Secretary-General António Guterres and his deputy for their leadership in defending international law.
The minister stressed the UN’s role in maintaining international peace and security while highlighting respect for international humanitarian and human rights law, particularly regarding the conflict in Gaza and developments in the occupied West Bank. He also outlined Egypt’s efforts to contain regional crises and promote political solutions.
The talks addressed reform of the UN system. Abdelatty called for strengthening international financial institutions to support developing countries. Amina Mohammed praised Egypt’s contributions to peacekeeping operations and humanitarian initiatives and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt.
