Formula 1 will adjust its power unit balance for the 2027 season by increasing combustion engine output and reducing electric deployment, the FIA said. The move follows ongoing concerns over the 2026 regulations and the immediate tweaks introduced at the Miami Grand Prix.
The FIA outlined the plans after an online meeting with team principals, Formula One Management and power unit manufacturers. Under the proposals, internal combustion engine power will rise by about 50 kW through a higher fuel flow limit, while energy recovery system deployment will drop by the same amount. The changes remain subject to formal votes by manufacturers and ratification by the World Motor Sport Council, though they were agreed in principle during the discussions. These long-term adjustments build on the race-specific 2026 regulation tweaks already implemented in Miami and the hardware discussions reported by teams such as McLaren.
