Former Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan is scheduled to be sentenced on July 8 after her conviction for obstructing federal immigration agents last year.
Federal prosecutors and Dugan's defense attorneys have filed opposing memos ahead of the hearing. Prosecutors argue for a serious sentence, stating that Dugan crossed a line by using her judicial power to help an immigrant evade arrest.
Dugan's team seeks time served, noting she has already faced significant personal and professional consequences. The 67-year-old former judge resigned her position after the December 2025 verdict.
The case stems from an April 18, 2025, incident in which Dugan was accused of directing an immigrant named Eduardo Flores-Ruiz through a jury door to avoid ICE agents. A jury convicted her on one felony count but acquitted her on a misdemeanor charge.
Dugan plans to appeal the conviction to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals regardless of the sentence.
