Former Romanian PM Cioloș concludes Egypt visit

Dacian Cioloș ended a five-day trip to Egypt on 5 June after meetings with officials and visits to key institutions.

Dacian Cioloș, a candidate for Secretary-General of La Francophonie and former Romanian prime minister, completed his official visit from 1 to 5 June. He met Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa to discuss education ties and toured Senghor University in Borg El-Arab. Cioloș also visited the Al Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding. He praised Egypt’s role in regional stability and peace efforts. The former prime minister inspected a Save the Children centre aiding children from Gaza and donated Romanian books. He further toured the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The visit marked 120 years of Romania-Egypt diplomatic relations. Cioloș described Egypt as a model for a modern Francophonie focused on youth, women and African development.
