Hong Kong police stopped and searched five men and two women in Causeway Bay for allegedly disrupting order on Thursday evening.
The individuals, aged between 17 and 79, were removed from the area around Great George Street and East Point Road for further investigation. They were later allowed to leave. Among them were Chan Po-ying, former chairwoman of the now-defunct League of Social Democrats, and activist Virginia Fung King-man. Police said they would deploy appropriate measures in response to threats to national security and public safety and order. A heavy police presence blanketed the popular shopping district that evening. Officers patrolled entrances to the MTR station and areas around the park near the former site of the Tiananmen vigil.
