Hong Kong police have arrested nine people in connection with two burglaries at a farm in Tin Shui Wai. The thefts resulted in losses exceeding HK$2.7 million. Some stolen items were pawned in Macau.
Police announced the arrests on Friday. The suspects, eight men and one woman, allegedly belonged to a syndicate with each member assigned a specific role.
The first burglary occurred on May 23. A farmworker heard a loud noise, found the gate open and saw a private car driving away. A safe holding HK$50,000 in cash and two watches had been moved but left behind.
The second burglary took place the previous Friday. Total losses in cash, watches, jewellery and gold exceeded HK$2.7 million. Senior Inspector Lam Ka-kit said some masterminds and accomplices remain at large and more arrests are possible.
