Hundreds of security guards and police officers carried out an eviction in Hung Shui Kiu on Tuesday, removing about 20 Tin Sam Tsuen residents for the Northern Metropolis project despite unresolved compensation concerns.
The Lands Department deployed hundreds of security guards to Hung Shui Kiu at 9am on Tuesday. Half an hour later officials confronted residents at a steel gate leading to a cluster of eight houses. The government said about 60 households involving more than 70 residents were affected. More than 40 households were ineligible for packages while most of the rest had received payments or rehousing. Residents argued that satisfactory compensation and relocation packages had not been provided. The Development Bureau noted that roughly five families were still completing procedures and would receive compensation once eligibility was confirmed.
