Idaho man charged in nunchucks attack on woman

An Idaho man has been arrested and charged after allegedly attacking a woman with nunchucks following an argument over a hospital visit.

Melvin Blackburn, 67, of Blackfoot, was taken into custody after the June 21 incident. Police say he assaulted the woman he lived with at their home, leaving her with bruises on her arm and back.

According to court documents, Blackburn had gone to the hospital the previous night after claiming the woman punched him. He walked home after she refused to pick him up and the pair argued upon his return. The woman told officers Blackburn swung the nunchucks while seated on a stool before she knocked him off and fled.

Blackburn initially claimed he used the weapon only in self-defense and never struck her, though his account reportedly changed multiple times during questioning. Officers noted he had no visible injuries.

He faces a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon enhancement and could receive up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
