The Inkatha Freedom Party has declared that the motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza lacks sufficient constitutional grounds.
The IFP Chief Whip Nhlanhla Hadebe stated there is no existing factual evidence to support the motion filed by Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema. Malema submitted the motion after Didiza chose to abide by a court decision on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s interdict without filing an opposing application.
Hadebe emphasised that accountability and transparency remain key to democracy but the presented circumstances do not justify removing the Speaker. The party insists that parliamentary oversight must stay within constitutional and procedural limits.
Concerns about any office bearer should follow established mechanisms rather than unjustified measures, according to the IFP statement issued on 11 July 2026.
