Laura Dern joins HBO's The White Lotus season 4 in a role newly written for her by creator Mike White, following Helena Bonham Carter's recent exit. This marks a reunion from their HBO collaboration on Enlightened. The season is set on the French Riviera amid the Cannes Film Festival.
As covered in prior cast updates, Helena Bonham Carter departed days after production began when her character didn't align on set. HBO has now cast Laura Dern in a tailored role, confirmed by Deadline and TVLine. Dern, an Oscar winner, recently starred in Palm Royale and has credits including Twin Peaks, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Mindy Project, and an upcoming series on the Jeffrey Epstein investigation as reporter Julie K. Brown. The ensemble includes Max Greenfield, Heather Graham, Kumail Nanjiani, Sandra Bernhard, Steve Coogan, and Chris Messina. Mike White will write and direct all episodes, set during the Cannes Film Festival across locations like Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monaco, and Paris.
