President Lee Jae Myung pledged on Friday to create an aerospace industry belt along South Korea's southern coast as part of the government's three mega projects initiative focused on semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers.
President Lee Jae Myung made the pledge while announcing investment plans for the southern region at an event in the southeastern city of Jinju. He said the government plans to establish a southern coast aerospace industry belt that will encompass satellites, rockets, next-generation aircraft and the new space industry.
The event marked the final leg of Lee's three regional events to unveil investment plans in advanced industries across the Honam, Chungcheong and Yeongnam regions. The president also presided over a meeting of the National Space Committee in Jinju.
Lee cited the Yeongnam region's concentration of industrial complexes, automobile and shipbuilding industries, and steel facilities as the country's top manufacturing hub. He pledged active government support to help aerospace firms in the region grow into global leaders.
