Lizzo has spoken about her latest album missing the charts, describing the experience as one that required her to mourn changes in her musical connection with audiences.
The Grammy-winning singer released her fifth studio album 'Bitch' on June 5. It failed to enter the top 100 on both the US and UK albums charts, a drop from her prior release 'Special', which reached number two in the US in 2022.
In a recent interview on the Swiftologist podcast, Lizzo said she felt stressed and sad for several days. She added that she had to accept shifts in the music industry and her own relationship with listeners, stating she needed to “mourn that.”
Lizzo also shared that SZA contacted her after the release. The singer recalled SZA saying, “You’re on my mind,” after Lizzo asked if she was a failure, with SZA responding that she was not.
She has previously discussed how streaming has replaced radio play and noted public controversies that affected promotion of the project.
