Over 100,000 people gathered in Lund on Saturday to watch the student carnival parade held every four years.
Saturday’s carnival parade in Lund was slightly delayed but still drew large crowds to the city streets under warm and sunny weather. The procession, scheduled to start at 13:00, departed about a quarter of an hour late due to technical issues with one wagon.
Nearly 9,000 students had been involved in the event that featured around 50 floats. Police reported that visitor numbers appeared higher than during the previous carnival in 2022.
Police spokesperson Patric Fors said the atmosphere had been calm although some people had become overly intoxicated in the heat. The carnival, running from Friday to Sunday, is expected to generate turnover similar to the 2022 edition that brought in just over 40 million kronor.
