President Marcos is scheduled to leave Manila today for a four-day state visit to Japan. The trip aims to strengthen defense ties and address energy security amid global fuel price volatility.
Marcos will meet Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to discuss the Philippines-Japan Strengthened Strategic Partnership. Topics include maritime security, energy, food security and implementation of existing defense pacts.
The two nations plan to announce new agreements on defense, trade, investment and human resources. Marcos is also set to be received by the Japanese emperor and empress at the Imperial Palace.
The visit marks Marcos’ 42nd overseas trip and his fourth to Japan since taking office in 2022. Around 340,000 Filipinos live and work in Japan as of 2025.
