President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Alexandra Eala after she became the first Filipino to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon.
In a social media post on Sunday, Marcos congratulated Eala on her win over defending champion Iga Swiatek. He said it was a moment of national pride.
"There are days when an entire nation celebrates together. Today is one of those days," Marcos said. He also noted that this was only the beginning for Eala.
Eala, 21, ranked No. 29, defeated Swiatek 7-6(9), 6-2 on Saturday. She will face Jasmine Paolini in Monday's match.
