Kimi Antonelli confirmed that Mercedes will introduce corrective measures to its Formula 1 power unit starting at the Austrian Grand Prix. The updates follow his Barcelona retirement and earlier issues in Miami and Montreal.
During an interview at the Red Bull Ring, Antonelli explained the Barcelona retirement three laps from the finish. A component experienced a sharp temperature spike that caused the battery to glitch.
He noted the issues had surfaced earlier. Antonelli had trouble in FP1 in Miami, and George Russell retired in Montreal.
Mercedes has introduced software updates and minor hardware tweaks to the battery pack. Antonelli will run a new power unit paired with an updated battery at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Team principal Toto Wolff said the team must fix the unreliability to fight for titles. The measures are routine and unrelated to the ADUO.
