Microsoft is developing a live-action Sea of Thieves movie and has shared initial plot details for an upcoming Gears of War film. The company is also considering reviving the Halo television series.
Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty discussed the Sea of Thieves project in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Marvel filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is producing the film through his company Hisako Films, though no director has been attached yet.
Booty highlighted the game's focus on community. "The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community," he said.
For the Gears of War film, director David Leitch will tell the origin story of Delta Squad. The plot involves "a ragtag crew of soldiers who wage a desperate war for survival against the Locust."
Xbox is also exploring options for the Halo franchise. Booty stated that Halo "is one of our biggest franchises" and that Microsoft will "invest going forward."
