More than 890 people were arrested in France following riots after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final on Saturday. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence and pledged unyielding punishments.
Clashes erupted across France, with police deploying tear gas in central Paris amid reports of burning vehicles, flares and damaged buildings. A total of 219 people were injured, including eight seriously, and a 24-year-old man died after his motocross bike struck concrete blocks on the Paris ring road. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the large police operation had prevented further looting despite a 45 percent rise in arrests compared with 2025.
