Paris police prefecture announced on Saturday the deployment of 4800 police officers and gendarmes plus 2500 firefighters for the Fête de la musique on Sunday. Alcohol consumption bans and restrictions on undeclared gatherings along the Seine quays have been imposed due to the heatwave. The event is also drawing growing numbers of European visitors.
In total, ten boats from the nautical brigade and eight from the firefighters brigade will be deployed to prevent drowning risks. Alcohol consumption in the street and public spaces is banned from 07:00 Sunday to 07:00 Monday, as well as the possession and transport of alcoholic beverages on certain quays.
The prefecture has also banned undeclared gatherings, processions and parades on the lower Seine quays from 15:00 Sunday to 08:00 Monday. These measures cover the Right Bank from Quai Henri IV to Quai des Tuileries and the Left Bank from Quai de la Tournelle to Quai Malaquais.
Météo-France has placed 35 departments under red heatwave alert for Sunday, a record. Meanwhile, Eurostar reports a 16% rise in passengers from London and FlixBus a doubling of searches for trips to Paris. Airbnb notes a 17% increase in stay searches between June 19 and 22.
