Oklahoma defeated North Carolina 9-3 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 College World Series championship on Saturday in Omaha. The Sooners now need one more win to claim their first title since 1994. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Both teams scored in the first inning before Oklahoma pulled away with a four-run fourth. Deiten Lachance hit a two-run homer for the Sooners as part of a three-hit day.
Dasan Harris also collected three hits. North Carolina starter Jason DeCaro allowed seven earned runs over 3 2/3 innings.
Oklahoma turned to reliever LJ Mercurius for 1 2/3 scoreless frames. The Tar Heels' top hitters combined for five hits in 14 at-bats.
