PAN files complaint against AMLO at International Criminal Court over organized crime links

The National Action Party filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court against former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for alleged crimes against humanity during his term.

The complaint, dated June 7, accuses López Obrador of pacts with organized crime through his security strategy known as 'Abrazos, no balazos'. The PAN cites more than 200 thousand homicides and more than 150 thousand disappearances as outcomes. Jorge Romero, national leader of the PAN, responded to criticism from President Claudia Sheinbaum. She called the action hypocritical, while Romero stated the complaint seeks justice for victims and that no one is above the law. The document mentions a surrender of sovereignty to organized crime between 2018 and 2024, with emblematic cases in Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and Michoacán. INEGI data indicate around 201 thousand intentional homicides during the period.
