Paris Firefighters balls cancelled due to heatwave

Paris firefighters announced on Friday the cancellation of their balls on July 13 and 14 due to extreme heat. The brigade described the move as the most responsible decision to ensure everyone's safety.

The Paris firefighters brigade stated on X that the cancellation was necessary given the forecast temperatures. Police prefect Patrice Faure asked the commanding general of the BSPP to forgo the events.

The prefect stressed the need for collective responsibility as many sporting events are cancelled for public health reasons. The balls are described as emblematic gatherings dear to the hearts of Parisians.

Météo France announced that Île-de-France would switch to red vigilance on Saturday until mid-next week. Twenty-four departments will be placed on red alert Saturday amid this third heatwave in two months.
