Aldrich Potgieter shares the first-round lead at the PGA Championship after adding a unique 1-iron to his bag at Aronimink. The club helped him navigate the challenging layout in Pennsylvania.
Aldrich Potgieter turned to a hollow-bodied PXG 1-iron this week, complete with adjustable weights of 12 grams in the heel and 7 grams in the toe. The club, built with a graphite shaft and roughly 15 degrees of loft, produces ball speeds between 170 and 172 miles per hour. It carries just a few yards farther than his 2-iron but runs out nearly 30 yards longer on the firm fairways.
