South African golfer Garrick Higgo started his PGA Championship round with a two-shot penalty after arriving one minute late to his tee time on Thursday morning at Aronimink Golf Club.
Higgo, 27, was on the practice putting green when his playing partner Shaun Micheel was called to the first tee at 7:18 a.m. His caddie urged him to hurry, but Higgo reached the tee at 7:19 a.m., triggering the penalty under Rule 5.3a for not being present with club and ball in hand at the scheduled time. He drove his opening tee shot down the middle of the 430-yard par-4 hole and finished with a score of 6 on the card after two putts, leaving him two over par after one hole before recovering to post a 69 for the round.
