Journalist Charlotte Griffiths claims Prince Harry placed a white pill on her tongue years ago at a Hampshire shooting weekend. The anecdote appears days after his privacy case against the Daily Mail publisher was dismissed. She thinks it was likely just paracetamol but could not be sure.
Charlotte Griffiths wrote in the Daily Mail about the alleged encounter at a 4,000-acre estate in Hampshire when Harry was third in line to the throne. From his pocket, he removed a small white pill, held it up to her face, popped it onto her tongue and said with a smile, “Now I know I can trust you!” She later noted it was almost certainly paracetamol rather than something more sinister.
The story follows the High Court dismissal of Harry’s case alongside claimants including Sir Elton John, David Furnish and Baroness Doreen Lawrence. Mr Justice Nicklin ruled that each of the claims is dismissed in his 436-page judgment.
Associated Newspapers called the outcome an overwhelming victory and a magnificent vindication of the Daily Mail’s journalism. Harry and Baroness Lawrence described the judgment as a complete and obvious whitewash.
So… was it all just a harmless prank, or something more?
