Despite assurances from the Centre, individuals who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest continue to face summons from Delhi Police, according to a Congress legal cell member.
Rishav Ranjan, a member of the Congress party’s legal cell, said on July 30 that the Delhi Police had summoned protesters until that afternoon to explain their presence at the site. The Delhi government issued an order withdrawing all cases against the protesters later that day, following assurances given by Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh on July 25.
Ranjan reported that a Congress helpline had received 300 calls, including 50 from young girls and women facing rape and death threats. He stated that the Supreme Court’s July 28 order on the release of minors and restraint on coercive action against students was not being fully implemented.
He added that three individuals from Haryana were brought to the Parliament Street police station for questioning without notice, with one blindfolded. Ranjan noted plans to meet the Delhi Police Commissioner and lodge FIRs to address threats against women protesters.
