Enköpings Hyresbostäder has decided to demolish a building in Kvarteret Hornugglan because renovation costs are too high. The 25 tenants must vacate their apartments by the end of November.
The building is an L-shaped multi-family house with three stories that previously included both apartments and premises for a church and a preschool. Both operations have moved out. According to CEO Martin Gepertz the company examined renovation into new housing or a care home but found no viable technical or economic solution. Tenant Teresia Nordenborg who has lived in her apartment for 13 years says the news came as a shock. She has been offered a larger apartment and sees a positive side in upgrading from two rooms to three. Gepertz expresses understanding that the situation feels difficult for the residents.
