A retired Chinese military dog handler has gained 5 million online followers by treating cats and dogs at low cost in a basic rural clinic.
Qian Yong, 43, served in the People's Liberation Army as a military dog handler. He opened a clinic in rural Tangshan, northern Hebei province, where he treats pets using basic equipment.
Since May last year, Qian has posted 76 video clips on social media. Some clips have received more than 2.5 million likes. His process includes taking temperatures, making diagnoses and giving intravenous drips.
He earned the nickname Hua Tuo in the vets field. Hua Tuo was a renowned physician from the Eastern Han dynasty. Pet owners travel long distances for his services, which they say give their animals a chance of survival.
China News Service reported that Qian charges low fees despite limited equipment in his clinic.
